African Soft-Furred Rats, also known as Multimammate Mice, are a species of rodent native to Africa.

Care Guide:

Housing: Provide a large cage (at least 2 ft x 2 ft x 3 ft) with multiple hiding places, climbing structures, and a nest box for breeding.

Diet: Offer a balanced diet of commercial rat food, fresh fruits and vegetables, and occasional protein sources such as mealworms or cooked eggs. Provide fresh water daily.

Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 70-80°F (21-27°C) in the cage with a heat source, such as a heat lamp, provided as needed.

Lighting: Provide a 12-hour light/dark cycle, with a dark and quiet sleeping area.

Handling: Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling.

Breeding: Provide a nest box filled with soft materials, such as shredded paper or cloth, for the female to build a nest. Female rats can have multiple litters a year, so it is important to separate pregnant females to avoid over-crowding.
